The ENT Coding specialist applies skills and knowledge of currently mandated coding and classification systems to select the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes representing healthcare services. This position is responsible for selecting and sequencing the codes such that the organization receives the optimal reimbursement to which the facility is legally entitled.
This position can be fully remote, fully onsite, or hybrid. Meetings may require onsite attendance so preference will be given to candidates residing in the Capital Region.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply official coding rules to accurately represent services provided by ENT practice providers. The specific focus will be on ENT surgeries performed in the hospital and ambulatory surgery center as well as office-based procedures. Coding direction will also be required regarding E & M based encounters.
- Provides coding support to both the Billing AR and Pre-Certification Teams.
- Maintains awareness of coding updates and advances coding knowledge and practice to all providers and staff as needed.
- Comply with comprehensive internal coding policies and procedures that are consistent with requirements.
- Exhibit integrity, adhere to ethical and legal coding practices, and build trust in professional activities.
- Ensure that all operative notes are added to the chart prior to billing to support the claim. Query the provider for clarification and/or additional documentation when there is conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous information in the health record.
- Works closely with the Pre-Certification Team to ensure that billing is consistent with precertification applications to the patient’s insurance plan.
- Attend coding meetings and roundtable sessions as well as collaborating with vendors regarding the correct coding of newer procedures related to specific products used in surgical and in office procedures.
- AAPC Certification Required, ENT Coding Experience Preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; will consider years of experience in lieu of education.
- ENT Practice experience preferred.
- Experience with NextGen preferred.
- The ENT Coding Specialist should demonstrate excellent and professional customer service skills in all interactions and communications with patients and their families, co-workers, and visitors.
- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, effective time management, and the ability to multitask.
- Proficient computer skills including ability to master the clinic’s software systems
- Demonstrate verbal and written communication in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
COMPENSATION: The compensation range for this position is $22 to $28. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual’s skills, education, experience, and qualifications
