Working within the division of Strategy & Planning and reporting to the System VP for Strategy and Planning, the Manager of Strategy & Planning will be responsible for the management, oversight, and execution of of in-depth market analyses within the healthcare sector. This role will direct all aspects of market studies that inform decision making at the highest levels, support business development, and enhance competitive positioning for the Albany Med Health System.Through relevant studies and research, the Manager of Strategy & Planning will play a key role in supporting the development of the organization's strategic plan, and assist with monitoring the progress of each plan.
The candidate will also be responsible for the oversight of the Community Need section of all Certificates of Need (CON) submitted by Albany Med or by the Albany Med Health System. The Manager of Strategy and Planning will also respond to and direct other related needs for the submission of the CON, including management of internal, demographic and competitor data related to the Health Equity Impact Assessment.
Additionally, the candidate will assist the System VP in regional community service planning efforts, by managing the Community Health Needs Assessment, Community Service Plan and its annual updates, and leading the collection of community benefit initiatives by Albany Medical Center staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Market Studies and Research
- Manage full scope of comprehensive analyses of healthcare markets, including trends, competitive landscape, regulatory impacts, and customer needs.
Data Analysis
- Oversee and utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze data from various sources, such as SPARCS, US Census Bureau and other sources to effectively synthesize findings into actionable insights.
Data Management
- Audit and monitor data sets used for market analyses. Manage relationships with data and software providers (e.g., HANYS DataGen team). Leverage internal data resources and platforms (HIS coding, physician billing, Credentialing, Epic, etc.) Continuously identify new sources of information. Develop additional data sets, as needed.
Strategic Reporting
- Prepare and present reports and dashboards for senior leadership across the System, highlighting key findings and strategic recommendations.
Strategic Planning
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and growth opportunities to inform the development of the System’s strategic plan.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage various internal relationships with cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, IT, practice leadership, and hospital management to ensure market analyses are aligned with strategic business objectives.
Community Service Planning
- Oversee the community service planning process, and represent Albany Med in all aspects of community service plan development, including the community health needs assessment. Direct the collection of community outreach initiatives for internal and external reporting (e.g., DOH, IRS).
Trend Identification
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, market share and competitor landscapes. Incorporate information to provide forward-looking analyses that anticipate changes in the market.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop community need and market demand sections of organization’s business plans.
- Serve as administrator for Market Edge software for the Albany Med Health System, including management of all requests across the System.
- Maintain existing and develop new strategic relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Develop competitor profiles and monitor changes in healthcare trends.
- Respond to requests from senior leadership and the Albany Med Health System Board as needed.
- Represent Strategy & Planning on interdepartmental and external working groups and committees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Business, Economics, or related field - required
- Master's Degree - preferred
- 5 years experience in market research or analysis, preferably within healthcare sector - required
- Extensive knowledge of health care planning data sets and mapping software.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in planning software and data visualization tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing and developing projects and leading cross-departmental discussions as needed.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and market dynamics is a plus.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
