Critical Care Nursing Opportunity:
We are seeking a skilled Critical Care Nurse Specialist to join our STAT team at Albany Medical Center. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing immediate medical attention to patients in need, responding to emergency codes, stabilizing patients, and educating staff and families on recognizing clinical deterioration. Your expertise will also contribute to educating staff, patients, and families to recognize clinical deterioration and how to make a proactive assessment and observation for patients at risk for deterioration. Additionally, you will provide MOCK code training for nurses and ancillary staff to help facilitate better outcomes in code situations.
About the Role:
The STAT team is a group of critical care trained professional nurses who are available 24/7 for any issue within the hospital and medical college. As a Critical Care Nurse Specialist, you will be an integral part of this team, utilizing your expertise in critical care nursing to make a real difference in the lives of our patients. You will respond to various emergency codes, stabilize patients, and educate staff and families on recognizing clinical deterioration. Your expertise will also contribute to educating staff, patients, and families to recognize clinical deterioration and how to make a proactive assessment and observation for patients at risk for deterioration. Additionally, you will provide MOCK code training for nurses and ancillary staff to help facilitate better outcomes in code situations.
Responsibilities:
* Respond to code stroke, code thrombectomy, code STEMI, code 10, anesthesia emergency, code blue, code malignant hyperthermia, code pink, and rapid response pages* Use problem-focused physical exams to evaluate and treat patients according to protocols* Stabilize decompensating patients on the floor and in ICUs* Manage ICU patients on the floor* Facilitate movement of patients to higher levels of care when needed* Utilize the Clinical Emergency and Rapid Response Adult Protocol and ACLS to patients including but not limited to oxygen desaturation, increased work of breathing, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, acute rales, acute bleeding, symptomatic hypertension, lethargy, lethargy with depressed respiratory status, hypoglycemia, and anaphylaxis* Educate visitors and staff on hospital policies and procedures related to patient care* Assist with moving patients to ED after a code gray* Administer IV push medications on applicable floors
Requirements:
* Graduate of a professional academic nursing program* Current RN registration to practice in the State of New York* A minimum of three years recent intensive care clinical experience in specific patient populations served* BLS/ACLS certified* Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, employees, and others* Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists
