Albemarle Corporation, a global leader in advanced material for mobility, energy, connectivity and health, is seeking an Analytical Chemistry with industrial experience in Atomic Spectroscopy, Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry. This role will support Research and Technology (R&T) workstreams in new products, customer applications and process development, focusing on the characterization of complex materials including but not limited to bromine & lithium chemical derivatives, polymer catalysts & additives, advanced bromine and lithium salts. The role involves interfacing with internal stakeholders, collaboration within R &T and across other functions, planning and executing method development activities, providing thorough documentation, and communicating results/findings. Excellent communication skills are important for the role. This position reports to the Analytical R&T Director and will be based at our Process Development Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

What You Will Do
- Function as a subject matter expert in Atomic Spectroscopy (i.e., ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS), Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (i.e., GC, GC/MS, LC, LC/MS).
- Stay current on analytical technology/industry trends and mentor/train junior team members.
- Develop and improve analytical methods for trace metal analysis, purity assays, impurity profiling, characterization for raw materials, process intermediates and finished products
- Lead and coordinate analytical programs for new products, customer applications and process development projects, collaborate across R&T, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Stewardship to ensure analytical support meets goals and standards.
- Support analytical investigations on quality concerns and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions for process optimization and quality control across all product lines.
- Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and ensure reliability and compliance with internal quality and safety standards, document methods, technical reports, SOPs and investigation reports
- Develop and apply a strong technical knowledge of Albemarle’s products.
- Maintain excellence in safety, health and environmental practices
Required:
- Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related technical discipline
- At least 7 years of relevant industrial experience and expertise in ICP-MS, ICP-OES, AAS, LC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS and proficiency in analytical instrumentation software such i.e. Syngistix, Mass Hunter, Open Lab.
- Knowledge of analytical method development, validation, transfer, ASTM, ISO, and quality assurance
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and respond on time to multiple parallel requests.
- Familiar with common lab safety best practices
- Ability to travel to other Albemarle sites or customer sites
- Ph. D in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
- Experience in bromine & lithium chemical derivatives, polymer catalysts & additives, advanced bromine, and lithium salts
