General Definition of Work:
Performs responsible skilled work in the repair and installation of electrical lines, fixtures and equipment; does related work as required. Supervision may be exercised over semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Maintains acceptable attendance and general safety standards in accordance with Albemarle County guidelines. This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in installing and repairing electrical wiring systems, controls and electrical machinery and equipment in buildings; thorough knowledge of the provisions of the appropriate electrical code, and of pertinent City or State inspection and safety requirements; general knowledge of computers and their operation, including MS Office Suite Software and keyboard skills; ability to diagnose and correct electrical power, lighting or communications failures; ability to perform field or shop repairs of electrical equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions. |
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school or vocational school. Extensive experience as a general electrician, to include a Journeyman’s License (electrical) and coursework in the electrical field is required. |
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts: Performance of more strenuous physical tasks, such as a) walking over rough or uneven surfaces; b) bending or stooping; c) working in confined spaces; d) lifting or carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds, and e) exposure to potentially disabling injuries or illnesses. Cooperative in nature, with most conflicts resolved by higher authority; regular contacts made with individuals from a) other internal organization units; b) outside organization; and c) the general public for the purpose of achieving organization goals and missions. Communication is usually cooperative in nature, with most conflicts resolved by higher authority. |
