Job Overview:
Albertus Magnus College invites applications for a full-time Academic Advisor and Accessibility Services Specialist (aka Advisor) who serves as the contact person to their assigned students who attend classes either online or in person at our New Haven campus. The advisor will also serve as the primary resource for ensuring that students receive appropriate and reasonable disability-related services. The Advisor will work collaboratively with student and academic support staff and administration to provide a supportive living and learning environment for students with accommodations and provide education and guidance to the college community to promote an understanding of rights and responsibilities pertaining to disability services.
The Advisor reports to the Dean of Advising and Student Success. The position has extensive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration. The incumbent is expected to represent the College in a positive manner and to collaborate with academic and student services departments to contribute to retaining students. This is an in-person position, a 12-month position.
Qualifications
Essential Functions:
- Meet with new and returning students to develop and monitor educational plans and goals. Works with admissions to clarify services offered to prospective students.
- Conduct one-on-one orientation and/or onboarding with new students.
- Assist faculty advisors with questions and help process registration.
- Serve as a liaison between the business, registrar, and financial aid offices.
- Oversee the development, management, coordination, and delivery of services to students with special needs/disabilities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure that students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations and services in accordance with the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of I990 (as amended).
- In collaboration with the Dean of Advising and Student Success, assists with formulating and managing annual budgets related to program services and costs, estimating program services and costs, developing budgets related to planned services, and monitoring expenses in compliance with operating budgets.
- Represents Student Disability Services in operational and strategic planning processes.
- Identify barriers to academic success and assist students in creating and applying action plans for overcoming challenges.
- Prepare and maintain internal and external reports and documentation.
- Serve on CoHege committees as appropriate.
- Serve as the College representative for the Association of Higher Education and Disability.
- Participate in recruitment events and student orientations.
- Undertake other projects as assigned by the Dean of Advising and Student Success.
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the position is required to carry out the essential duties of:
- Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies.
- Service on committees and task forces, as assigned.
- Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Ability to teach by leveraging the learning management system and other technology tools.
Language Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule fonn. Ability to work independently and as a group member in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Monday - Friday 8:30-4:30

Full-time employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision benefits. Full-time employees can earn between 18-23 paid time off a year. The employer covers tuition remission after 90 days of employment and covers 100 % (employees responsible for books and technology fees). The college is committed to work-life balance and has a summer schedule from June through August. We currently have 14 paid holidays, including a winter break.
