High School (9-12) Instrumental Music Teacher

Position Overview:
Albion Central School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated Instrumental High School Music Teacher to inspire students in their musical journey. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, excellent classroom management skills, and the ability to develop engaging lesson plans that cultivate a love for music. This position involves teaching instrumental music to high school students, directing ensembles, and fostering an appreciation for the performing arts, with a strong emphasis on marching band instruction and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Instrumental Music Education Teacher or relevant role
- Comprehensive knowledge of current pedagogical skills and teaching and management methodologies
- Experience working with children with a wide range of needs and skills
- Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
- Minimum BA in Music, Music Education or related field
- Valid New York State certification in Music
- Preferred: Three years of teaching experience
Essential Duties:
Educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of needs, gifts and talents. You will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students, which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement engaging instrumental music lessons for high school students.
- Proficient in a variety of musical instruments
- Instruct students in a variety of instruments, including band and/or orchestra instruments.
- Direct ensembles, rehearsals, and performances, with a strong focus on marching band, concert bands, jazz bands, or orchestras.
- Willingness to develop and lead additional school related activities such as but not limited to, marching band program, specialized ensembles, rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
- Organize and conduct school concerts, marching band shows, competitions, and community performances.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate music into the broader curriculum.
- Maintain and inventory musical instruments and equipment, particularly for marching band use.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student creativity and growth.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program events.
- Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony and in instrumental music and/or choral music.
- Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within allotted time.
- Maintaining/ arranging/ managing the music classroom in a clean, attractive and functional manner.
- Utilize repertoire of types of music literature appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
- Evaluates each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
- Being available to discuss the music program and/or student's needs.
- Assist the administration in implementing all District policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct
- Attend scheduled meetings; serve on District and building committees
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by District policy, regulations and building procedures
- Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and /or District Administrator

Requirements:
- NYS Certification in Music
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED TEACH; drug testing; current TB test; current physical (less than one year old) - all completed upon being hired for employment
Terms of Employment: Ten-month year; salary to be established by the Board of Education; follows the ATA contract (Step 1: $49,037 - $55,000)
Evaluation: Completed by Administration and follows ATA contract
