Summary
The Albuquerque Academy Custodial Department is seeking an individual for the position of Custodian. This position is responsible for working independently and as a team member to provide cleaning services for all campus facilities. The Custodian also provides assistance for event set-ups. Essential Functions
- Communicate daily with the supervisor at the beginning of the shift.
- Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, stairs, and other surfaces.
- Use light and heavy floor machines and attachments.
- Clean and service restrooms.
- Clean and wash windows, interior door glass, and mirrors.
- Collect and place bags in trash containers and carry them to the pickup location.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Detail clean as required. Dust chalk boards, windowsills, corners, and door jambs.
- Follow Supervisor instructions for schedule changes and procedures.
- Strip, wax, and polish floors as required.
- Extract or spot clean carpets as required.
- Support the School and its mission, always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
- Foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and communicate and collaborate effectively across differences.
Other Responsibilities
- Report shortages of supplies to the supervisor.
- Observe and report the need for complicated repairs to the supervisor.
- Assist with event set up and take down for campus events.
- Be assigned to other buildings to fill in for vacation or sick time.
- Attend employee meetings as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience in the custodial field is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to attend continuing education in custodial and customer service skills as provided by the school
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures used in custodial work
- Ability to read, understand, and follow specific instructions and safety procedures in English
Special Requirements
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Working Environment
- Majority of work is performed in an indoor setting on campus.
- Expected hours of availability are 3:00PM to 11:30PM Monday through Friday.
- Work hours vary by season.
- Periodic overtime is required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Ability to walk approximately two miles per day
- Regular pushing, pulling, and lifting to move furniture
- Regular driving
