What are the responsibilities and job description for the STAFF ARCHITECT position at Albuquerque Public Schools?
To manage the programming, design and assist in the construction management required for the coordination of architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines as related to each capital improvement project.
- Meets with the Director and other District personnel as needed, and reports status of capital projects.
- Supervises and evaluate assigned personnel.
- Prepares preliminary drawings and/or construction documents for miscellaneous remodeling and/or construction projects.
- Meets with appropriate District administrators and architects to review design concepts and construction standards.
- Prepares and administers architectural contracts and other contracted professional services.
- Coordinates design reviews with architects and district personnel, including Maintenance & Operations, IT, and others as needed.
- Meets with and advises contracted personnel regarding contract requirements.
- Reviews all phases of design to assure the districts needs are being met, projects are on time and within budget.
- Coordinates with the Procurement Department in getting projects out to bid.
- Assists in the preparation of construction contracts.
- Assists in the inspection of work in progress to ensure compliance with construction documents timelines and budgets.
- Represents the District and the Department as needed.

- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations' in-person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
- Knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of standard construction techniques and applicable code requirements.
- Knowledge of operation of Computer Automated Drafting (CAD).
- Seven years experience, including management responsibilities, in architectural engineering, and/or building construction.
- Bachelor's degree in architect engineering or related field.
- Registered architect or engineer in the State of NM or will have successfully completed all exams within 6 months of date of hire.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical examination.
- Valid New Mexico Driver's license with insurable driving record.
