What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEACHER PRE-K position at Albuquerque Public Schools?
Adheres to NM PreK Program Standards to provide a high quality PreK learning experience for four-year-olds and family engagement activities.
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Develops and regularly modifies classroom learning environment to meet the developmental needs of young children for engaged learning opportunities.
- Creates and implements an integrated curriculum that addresses the learning needs of four-year-old children across all developmental domains (Social/Emotional, Language, Motor, Cognition).
- Implements state required documents and processes for home visits, student portfolio assessment documentation and data reporting, lesson plans, and family-teacher conference summary sheet.
- Conducts developmental screening on all PreK children and provides parent education on the developmental milestones of young children.
- Plans and implements activities with parents to strengthen their role in their child's education.
- Establishes communication with early chilhood community-based programs, other early childhood district-based programs and with kindergarten teachers.
- Exhibits strong organizational skills in keeping student data and anecdotal records on students' learning progress.
- Participates in mandatory NM PreK professional development opportunities and District early childhood professional development events.
- Articulates the NM PreK program philosophies, procedures and early learning outcomes as necessary.

- Early Childhood license
- Reading, Bilingual endorsements
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to speak, read and write a language other than English, preferably Spanish.
- Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
- Five years of teaching experience preferred in early childhood education and working with parents.
Requires:
- Bachelors Degree
- Current New Mexico teaching certificate in early childhood, Birth - 3rd grade.
