What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician position at Albuquerque Vision Care & Advanced Eyewear?
An optician interprets eyeglass prescriptions written by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. They assist in selecting frames based on each customer’s prescription and lifestyle, and measure the customer’s face and eyes to ensure proper fit of eyewear. Skills acquired would enable the optician to ensure that finished lenses were ground to specifications and check that the eyewear fits properly. This is a challenging and rewarding job that requires strong people skills and excellent time management ability. Attention to detail and follow-through to completion of service is very important to maintain customer loyalty and satisfaction. Opticians perform a variety of tasks. A degree of creativity and latitude is required. We are considered to be a high end, boutique style optical gallery and knowledge/awareness of fashion and trends is a plus.
The applicant must be very professional in appearance as our office is a conservative, upscale medical environment. Office hours are 8:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday. Starting pay is $16.50 depending on experience.

Responsibilities
- Assist customers with selecting eyewear and provide detailed product knowledge to enhance their shopping experience.
- Conduct preliminary eye examinations and record vital signs accurately.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure proper medical coding.
- Manage inventory and assist in retail sales to meet store targets.
- Collaborate with optometrists to ensure a seamless patient experience while demonstrating effective time management skills.
- Stay updated on optical trends and advancements in ophthalmology.
Qualifications
- Strong retail sales experience with a focus on customer service
- Knowledge of physiology and anatomy relevant to optical care
- Familiarity with medical terminology and medical coding
- Experience in optical settings and understanding of ophthalmology
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical billing practices
- Proficiency with EMR systems and medical records management
