Reports To: Building Principal
Supervises: Students, Associates, and Volunteers
Summary: The Alburnett Community School District employs the Teacher to provide a well-planned
educational program that meets the individual needs of students, establish an effective rapport with students, motivating them to develop skills and knowledge while continuously monitoring students’ progress toward meeting the learning goals of the district and to maintain a good working relationship with parents, other staff and administration, and the community.
Qualifications:
● Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
● Hold a valid Iowa Teaching license and appropriate endorsements for the grade level or academic courses to which assigned
Essential Functions:
● Utilize instructional techniques and methodology that are research based and consistent with recognized educational practices.
● Implement a program of study, which incorporates the District approved curriculum and that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
● Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
● Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects with clear communication to students.
● Employ research based instruction methods while using materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
● Continuously monitor student progress toward meeting the stated District goals through formative assessment and including a range of in-class and out-of-class resources.
● Assist specialists and consultants in identifying and working with students with special needs.
● Assist with administrative implementation of all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, including development of reasonable, fair, and just rules of classroom procedures and behaviors.
● Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for any associates or volunteers that may be available.
● Through the development of an Individual Career Development Plan, provide for personal professional growth with an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and course work at
institutions of higher learning, which support the Professional Development Plan developed by the District.
● Attend staff meetings, participate in professional development activities, and serve on committees as assigned by the administration or Board of Education.
● Maintain a safe, neat, attractive, and interesting classroom.
● Supervise students on a building-wide basis as well as those under immediate classroom jurisdiction.
● Attend and supervise all jurisdictional activities as well as other assigned duties and activities.
● Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and materials within the assigned area.
● Prepare lesson plans and have them available for inspection upon request or as directed by the building principal.
● Write out specific instructions for substitutes, which should be more detailed than a lesson plan.
● Prepare for and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
● Prepare all reports required by the principal or superintendent in a timely manner.
● Accept responsibility for the proper care of books, apparatus, furniture, supplies, and equipment in the room or areas assigned.
● Make suggestions for changes and improvements to the building principal.
● Abide by and enforce all applicable laws relating to diversity.
● Participate in their own evaluation using the Iowa Teaching Standards.
● Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the administration or Board of Education.
