Summary:
As part of the Alchatek Operations Team, the Chemical Operator will produce packaged polyurethane resins by blending chemical formulations at an industrial scale. The key functions include: picking raw materials from warehouse inventory, weighing and transferring chemical raw materials, operating manufacturing machinery and equipment, operating chemical packaging and/or processing equipment, such as fillers, pump and scales. The successful candidate will start at the basic level of operations as a chemical operator and can progress based on skill set, product/process knowledge, and the ability to perform at more advanced levels of the chemical operator position.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure good personal safety practices are followed, including but not limited to OSHA and EPA.
- Understanding how to obtain safety information on chemical SDSs.
- Inspect equipment daily for a pre-shift inspection.
- Maintain and clean assigned machine/equipment/area.
- Responsible for daily manufacturing activities which include setup, in process, and post process handling and monitoring of all intermediates, and products. Including but not limited to following SOPs, routings and written/verbal instructions.
- Demonstrating ISO standards are being followed. Includes recording and verifying accurate information is reported on all documentation.
- Making suggestions for improvements to SOPs, routing, work practices, processes, and areas.
- Reporting chemical and supply inventory shortages in a timely manner.
- Handling, transferring, and confirming all inventory items.
- Proper handling of all waste materials. Understanding the differences between various types of waste, storage locations, and personal protection requirements.
- Instructing other departments about safety and handling when required.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, reports equipment malfunctions using the appropriate notification system.
- Participate in the continuous improvement processes for safety, quality, service and productivity.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience Required:
- High School Degree or equivalent with an associate’s degree or equivalent college preferred.
- At least 1 year experience in Chemical Manufacturing or Production environment.
- Basic math skills with the ability to learn intermediate level math.
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Qualifications:
- Manual dexterity, ascend, descend steps, stairs and/or ladders.
- Oral and written skills to communicate and maintain accurate records.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook).
- Hear to decode communication and detect potential problems with the machine.
- Lift 60 lbs., walk, sit, squat, bend, push/pull with arms/legs, body, reach overhead and stoop.
- Work in variable conditions (including hot and cold temperatures).
