Salon & Spa Director Job Description
The Salon & Spa Director is responsible for developing and managing all operations, sales and marketing strategies, and employee relations to achieve organizational objectives. This position will oversee all providers to achieve customer satisfaction in every area while fostering a positive, productive team environment. Other responsibilities include maximizing productivity and profitability in services and retail to achieve all organizational goals.
The person for this role understands the need to be proactive, business savvy, engaging, and client-focused all while running a tight and organized day to day operation. Due to the nature of the business time will need to be spent in the most consistent schedule possible. Your face is important to see not only for employees but clients. Your time will also need to be spent on night and weekend events. Time management, multitasking abilities, and the capacity to anticipate challenges and manage shifting priorities are essential in this dynamic role.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operations:
- Continuously develop and optimize operational systems, tools, and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Create systems and strategies to meet and exceed goals related to revenue, costs, and customer service while maintaining top-tier client experiences
- Oversee the operations of the salon, ensuring a smooth workflow, effective teamwork, and an excellent guest experience
- Oversee supply management, including procurement, inventory, and cost control measures for salon & spa retail, boutique retail, back bar products and supplies.
- Manage team communication, including between staff, ownership, and guests
- Stay current with software updates, integrations, and leverage technology to maximize operational potential
- Lead and manage projects aimed at developing new services, offerings, and initiatives that align with the salon’s goals
- Ensure that all utilities and equipment are functioning optimally and oversee any required repairs or maintenance
- Maximize schedules to use salon to its full potential
- Keep an ongoing task list with levels of priority for the owners to view and add to as needed
- Foster consistent communication within all areas of responsibility, creating awareness of business objectives, managing expectations, recognizing performance, and ensuring alignment with business goals
- Coordinate with vendors to stay informed on new product offerings, releases, and trends, and schedule any necessary education or training sessions
Sales:
- Analyze previous year's sales performance, identify trends, and propose growth strategies with clear execution models for the owner
- Set and track the team’s performance through weekly, monthly, and yearly goals, ensuring focus and motivation for optimal results
- Ensure the team is focused, motivated, and producing positive results. Create and maintain a communication structure to follow through with these objectives
- Oversee retail area including ordering, merchandising, and receiving to maximize sales.
- Review sales reports and retail buy calendars to ensure timely reorders
- Work with Marketing/Social Media contractor and/or designated person(s) to create a strategy for sales and meeting goals
- Engage directly with clients to guide them through our service and retail offerings, fostering customer loyalty
- Review and respond to all client feedback, develop service improvement efforts where appropriate
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively by using the appropriate process; focus on customer satisfaction all while making sure the customer and employee are heard and cared for.
- Stay abreast of industry trends for products and services, and report findings to owner and staff with implementation ideas
- Attend a professional sales or leadership development seminar annually
Marketing:
- Develop a strong understanding of the products and services offered, effectively communicating benefits to both staff and clients
- Plan, execute, and oversee customer events in collaboration with the owner to drive engagement and sales
- Establish and nurture relationships with other local businesses for collaboration, referral, and cross-promotional opportunities
- Collaborate with Social Media Coordinator and staff to develop and maintain a cohesive content strategy across all channels
- Assist in crafting website and social content as directed by the owner
- Host a monthly meeting with a Social Media Coordinator to discuss ideas and review the
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns for new product and service launches, as well as upcoming events, to drive awareness, engagement, and sales
Employee Relations:
- Direct the development of staffing strategies, ensuring alignment with business needs and growth
- Streamline and enhance staffing systems, tracking, reporting, and analysis
- Recruit personnel who reflect our brand and mission
- Execute the hiring process in coordination with ownership, including interviewing and selection,
- Follow onboarding protocol for new staff, including training on salon, spa and communication procedures and policies
- Coordinate and manage staff schedules to ensure proper coverage.
- Plan, facilitate and attend staff and quarterly meetings in conjunction with ownership
- Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees and ensure employees do the same within the team.
- Develop, plan and attend educational events for staff in collaboration with ownership, vendors and team members
- Regularly review the support structure, proposing updates or changes to the owner as necessary, including projected costs and potential impacts on sales
- Facilitate 90-day reviews for new hires to ensure smooth integration and performance alignment
- Celebrate staff birthdays, anniversaries, and publicly recognize the contributions of team members
- Plan and execute quarterly team building activities, events and parties
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations
- Host school tours and organize shadow days at the salon to foster relationships with future potential team members, providing them with hands-on experience and insight into the salon industry and Alchemy’s brand
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years in retail, salon, hospitality, fitness, or marketing management
- Strong understanding of budgetary, supervisory, human resources, and quality improvement principles and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to apply entrepreneurial mindset and employee development principles, with experience in team-building and leadership
- Transparent, positive, and solutions-oriented leadership style
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities with the ability to research and recommend effective solution
- Data-driven approach, including experience in analyzing KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to inform decision-making
- A high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and informed decision making.
- Communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals.
- Experience using Google Office Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive) and Canva; familiarity with salon management software is a plus.
- Proven ability to multitask and manage priorities effectively in a dynamic environment

Physical Requirements
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Director, such as frequently standing, walking, or sitting for extensive periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies, up to 30 pounds. Occasional stress caused by multitasking and a high level of responsibility may be present. The ability to maintain a calm demeanor during conflict and high-stress situations is key in this position.
