Summary:
As part of the Alchatek Operations team, the Instrumentation and Improvement Technician will work with the Operations Management Team to determine what improvement and repair projects are needed and schedule their weekly work to optimize the Alchatek production facilities to produce packaged polyurethane resins by blending chemical formulations at an industrial scale. The key functions for the Maintenance and Improvement Technician include: Timely and effective completion of improvement and repair projects. Working with Production to schedule downtime for projects, measurement of project effectiveness and reporting of KPIs, such as wrench time, MTTF, MTTR, etc. Working with the operation team to conduct Continual Improvement activities to optimize performance of chemical packaging and/or processing equipment, such as reactors, fillers, pumps and scales. The Maintenance and Improvement Technician will report to the Technical Director to drive continual improvement of the plant's performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure suitable personal safety practices are followed, including but not limited to OSHA and EPA.
  • Review MSDS information for safety purposes.
  • Inspect equipment as required to properly maintain, and clean assigned machine/equipment/area.
  • Demonstrating ISO standards are being followed, Including recording and verifying accurate information that is reported on all documentation.
  • Making suggestions for improvements to equipment, work practices, processes, and areas.
  • Instructing other departments about safety and equipment operation when required.

  • Responsible for daily maintenance work orders and communicating resource needs to the team.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement processes for safety, quality, service, and productivity.
  • Communication with engineering and quality assurance to interpret and establish technical requirements
  • Interface with production, sales, and warehouse in order to schedule equipment downtime for repairs and improvements
  • CMMS system set up. Work order management system development and training users to utilize systems. Oversight to ensure projects are completed quickly and in order of priority.
  • Maintain shop, parts room, and all maintenance department areas to 5S standards.
  • Management of equipment documentation.
  • Oversight and leadership of troubleshooting.
  • Maintain continuity among shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • College degree preferred
  • A Technical qualification in a complimentary discipline would be an advantage

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years of experience in Industrial Maintenance
  • At least 1 year experience in Chemical Manufacturing or Production environment with some experience with chemical process and filling equipment
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma training a plus
  • PLC and CMMS Experience a Plus.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Basic math skills with the ability to learn intermediate-level math.
  • Knowledgeable of industrial plant equipment and PLCs
  • Knowledge of production, materials, and process flow
  • Must display initiative to complete all operations goals and support our customers.
  • Must work toward continuous improvement.
  • Must have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc…) to complete daily tasks.
  • Knowledge of TPM. Other Requirements:
  • Manual dexterity, ascend, and descend steps, stairs and/or ladders
  • Oral and written skills to communicate and maintain accurate records
  • Detect cues (i.e. audible, vibrations, etc.) to decode and detect potential problems with machinery.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs., walk, sit, squat, bend, push/pull with arms/legs, body, reach overhead and stoop
  • Work in variable climate temperatures
  • Valid driver’s license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
