Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record required
- Associate’s degree in Human Services field preferred
- Individuals in sustained, long-term recovery from substance use problems are preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Coach by an approved organization. Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) full training preferred. The certification requirement may be waived as long as the employee is making satisfactory progress toward the achievement of certification and CCAR training as soon as possible but no less than 6 months from the date of employment.
- Completion of Urine Specimen Collection certification, Breath Alcohol Technician certification
- Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting certification
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCIT)
- First Aid/CPR required within 6 months of hire.
Duties:
1. Can develop a professional and supportive relationship to speak to the
experience of others with mental health and/or substance use issues and
provide support based on similar experiences.
2. Provide direct services to clients on an individual, group and family basis in the office setting to teach recovery management skills, promote personal growth, whole health wellness and assist client with recovery goals.
3. Document services in agency electronic health records and any other required documentation per grant requirements, state licensure and CARF standards.
4. Work within a team model and participate in case consultations and
other discussions related to client needs as an active voice for the client.
5. Assist client and treatment team to identify those needs of the client
which are incapable of being satisfactorily met by this organization and
collaborate with treatment team to make an appropriate referral to an
outside organization which can meet those needs if such an organization
exists.
6. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all client treatment in
accordance with applicable state and federal laws and rules (e.g.
42-CFR-2 for substance abuse clients).
7. Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment: Office setting with minimal exposure to noise or temperature variation.
Physical Demands: Frequent periods of sitting; frequent use of computer monitor requiring visual acuity; occasional lifting, standing, bending.'
