NOTE: To be eligible for a head coach assignment, the interested certified applicant/candidate must possess and/or be eligible for valid Georgia teaching certification.  Current certified vacancies are posted within our NCSS Job Center.

Alcovy High School is seeking a transformational, innovative leader to serve as our Varsity Head Boys’ Basketball Coach—a coach who is committed to developing student-athletes on and off the court.

 

We compete at the GHSA 5A level and are looking for a high-character, growth-minded coach who will elevate our program to state championship contention while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and development.

 

Job Summary:

The Varsity Head Boys’ Basketball Coach is responsible for leading a championship-caliber program that instills discipline, leadership, and basketball IQ while ensuring every player maximizes their potential.

 

The ideal candidate is:

  • An Innovator & Modern Strategist – Brings cutting-edge coaching techniques, analytics, and training methods to maximize player performance.
  • A Players' Coach & Mentor – Builds strong, trust-based relationships with student-athletes and serves as a positive role model on and off the court.
  • Growth-Minded & Transformational – Emphasizes player development at all levels, advancing student-athletes to the collegiate and professional ranks.
  • Fundamentals & Strategy Driven – Teaches the game at a high level, ensuring purpose-driven practices and game-day preparation that maximize strengths and address weaknesses.
  • Leadership & Culture Builder – Creates a high-character program that emphasizes ownership, accountability, and internal leadership.
  • Detail-Oriented & Organized – Plans and executes every practice, game, and off-season workout with precision and purpose.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute a comprehensive basketball program for freshman, JV, and varsity levels.
  2. Mentor and develop players for college recruitment and professional opportunities.
  3. Implement innovative offensive and defensive strategies to give the team a competitive edge.
  4. Establish a championship culture based on work ethic, discipline, and self-improvement.
  5. Train and mentor assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with program philosophy and goals.
  6. Create game plans and practice structures that ensure intentional skill development and execution.
  7. Foster team leadership and ownership, allowing players to hold each other accountable.
  8. Maintain high expectations for academics and character, ensuring student-athletes excel in the classroom and community.
  9. Engage with parents, the school, and the community to build support for the program.
  10. Stay ahead of the game by integrating analytics, strength & conditioning, and sports psychology into player development.
  11. Oversee off-season training programs, including weight training, open gym, and AAU partnerships.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven success as a varsity head coach or high-level assistant (college experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated success in player development and college/professional pipeline experience
  • Strong knowledge of modern offensive and defensive systems that maximize talent
  • Experience coaching and mentoring assistant coaches and staff
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work within GHSA regulations and school policies
  • Holds or willing to obtain GHSA coaching certifications

Salary : $5,500 - $7,000
