Reports to: Food Service Supervisor
Location: San Antonio, TX
Employment Status: Full-Time or Part-Time
Operating Hours: 7 days a week, 5:00AM-8:00PM, including weekends and federal holidays
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: Aldevra is seeking reliable and detail-oriented Food Service Workers to support food service operations at Veterans Affairs (VA) Kerrville Medical Center (KMC) in Kerrville, TX. The position involves preparing snacks and nourishments, maintaining sanitation, performing ware washing, and supporting general kitchen operations in compliance with FDA Food Code standards. We will provide training, but the ideal candidate will already align with our core values of SOAR (Strong Integrity and Ethics, Outstanding Teamwork, Accountability-Driven and Relentless Pursuit of Quality).
This position is contingent upon contract award.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Snack and Nourishment Preparation:
- Prepare snacks and nourishments following approved recipes, adhering to dietary restrictions, allergies, and texture consistencies.
- Use equipment such as knives, mixers, blenders, and slicers safely and effectively.
- Label and deliver snacks to unit refrigerators, pantry areas, or outpatient clinics.
- Restock nourishment areas and maintain cleanliness and organization.
- Sanitation Duties:
- Spot clean floors, tables, and food preparation equipment.
- Clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, meal delivery carts, and dishwashing areas.
- Follow the "clean as you go" principles, remove trash, and manage recyclables.
- Ware Washing Operations:
- Operate dishwashers, wash pots and pans using the three-sink method, and sanitize meal trays.
- Ensure compliance with food safety protocols, including monitoring water temperatures and reporting equipment malfunctions.
- General Support:
- Adhere to hygiene and appearance policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain compliance with VA-specific policies regarding safety, conduct, and operational standards.
- All other duties as assigned.

Workplace Safety and Environment:
This position is based in a food service environment, requiring adherence to strict safety and sanitation standards. Work involves:
- Standing for extended periods, frequent bending, lifting, and walking.
- Handling and operating kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and dishwashers.
- Following FDA Food Code guidelines to maintain food safety and prevent cross-contamination.
- Cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment to meet sanitation requirements.
- Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including slip-resistant shoes, gloves, and hair/beard restraints.
Qualifications:
- National Restaurant Association ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation practices, and cross-contamination prevention.
