Food Service Maintenance Technician Job Description
Job Title: Food Service Maintenance Technician FSLA: Exempt

Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install commercial electric and gas kitchen appliances and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all kitchen systems and fixtures in assigned district facilities.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED
- EPA Technician Certification Type II or Universal Certification or CFESA Certification of
Journeyman Electrician License is beneficial
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors
- Knowledge of current codes and ordinances
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to work on low voltage and high voltage equipment, single or three-phase circuits
- Ability to work after hours and weekends based on schedules on-call rotation
Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years experience in repair and maintenance of commercial kitchen cooking and refrigeration equipment
Major Responsibilities and Duties
1. Responsible to the Director Maintenance, Technology, and Construction for performance of all duties.
2. Install, maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial electric and gas kitchen cooking equipment and low or medium temperature refrigeration equipment, including ware washing, cleaning, food processing, hot and cold holding equipment, and kitchen vent-hood systems.
3. Perform preventive maintenance of equipment at each assigned school.
4. Complete work order requests from assigned schools, promptly and efficiently.
5. Request purchase orders for the procurement of parts needed to complete the repair.
6. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
7. Respond to emergency equipment failures through the scheduled on-call rotation after hours and weekends.
8. Ensure all city, county, state, and federal regulations are followed in performing all work.
Safety:
9. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
10. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
11. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure equipment is in safe operating condition.
12. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Evaluation
An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of each year.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools; power tools
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, setting up and climbing ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work mostly inside, exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
