Purpose
A legal assistant provides a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in the firm’s practice of representing financial institutions in bankruptcy, foreclosure, residential real estate or mortgage law. A legal assistant position is not exempt from overtime laws.
Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities
Process the sales and post-sale work load of the assigned states according to Aldridge Pite procedures, internal goals and client/insurer/investor requirements.
Draft legal documents including pleadings, briefs, motions and agreements.
Electronically file pleadings within strict deadlines and manage/organize high volume incoming electronically filed pleadings.
Prepare correspondence.
Proof legal forms and documents for accuracy.
Organize and track assigned case files.
Provide timely responses/updates to clients.
Communicate with courts, title vendors and other third parties.
Monitor and handle sales and post sale- related tasks for the judicial foreclosure caseload assigned.
Ensure that billing is completed in a timely manner at all billable events and milestones.
Handle other projects or tasks assigned.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
At least 2 years’ experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
Judicial foreclosure service experience highly preferred.
Paralegal certificate a plus but not required.
Prefer knowledge of multi-state process of service in a judicial environment.
Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques and legal terminology.
In depth knowledge of government regulations.
Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Excellent planning and organizing skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent research, analytical, critical thinking skills.
