What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Accounting position at ALEC?
SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), oversees the operations of the accounting department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the preparation of monthly financial statements, annual financial reports and other reports and requests for information.
- Maintains efficient, accurate and timely accounting, recordkeeping, and reporting systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory rules and regulations.
- Analyzes, develops and recommends fully GAAP compliant accrual balances and adjustments monthly.
- Monitors cash and investment accounts daily.
- Establishes and monitors internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
- Reviews and reconciles general ledger activity and supporting financial reports.
- Prepares special reports for management and regulatory agencies.
- Analyzes and approves weekly and monthly reconciliations of the correspondent bank accounts.
- Manages investment purchases accounting and prepares reconciliations.
- Prepares quarterly Call Report.
- Prepares annual IRS 990 report.
- Manages and supports correspondent bank and regulatory agency reporting and compliance commitments.
- Prepares monthly financial statements and other required financial statements.
- Coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information.
- Promotes all aspects of any department project and allocates financial and talent resources appropriately.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with Accounts Payable.
- Assists with wire transfers.
- Expands skillset and knowledge in other areas of the CFO’s responsibility to take on more complex challenges in the future.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Education Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Experience Required: Five (5) years of experience in an Accountant role and five (5) years of experience managing an accounting department.
- Experience Preferred: Five (5) years of experience managing an accounting department in a financial institution.
