- Para-professional to assist students districtwide experiencing behavior difficulties.
- Help special education teachers provide for the instructional, behavioral, and physical needs of
- Students with disabilities in a special education setting.
- Assist in the implementation of Classroom programs and Individual Education Plans (IEP), including instruction, organization, socialization, behavior management, and self-help.
- Work under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education and the immediate direction of the Behavior Specialist.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
- Some experience working with children with special needs.
- Ability to de-escalate verbally and physically aggressive students.
- Ability to work with children with disabilities.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of general office equipment.
- Ability to conduct instruction and/or attend meetings and professional development and make and receive phone calls in a virtual or remote workplace environment.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Work with individual students to provide positive behavior supports for students on Behavior intervention plans.
- Work with individual and small groups of students to reinforce the instruction provided by the general education teacher in an inclusive setting or by the special education teacher in the specialized setting.
- Provide support in a general education classroom to assist special education students to become as independent as possible.
- Assist classroom teachers in accommodating materials to meet the individualized needs of the student(s).
- Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
- Keep Behavior Specialist informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Help Behavior Specialists and teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior.

Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

- Assist students throughout the school day (inside and outside the classroom), including cafeteria, to / from bus, during transitions, and other unstructured settings.
- Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
- Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Perform any and all duties as assigned.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours and may be required to attend faculty, campus, or District meetings as determined by the Director and/or Coordinator of Special Education.
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment.
Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking and regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
Environment: Work inside; regular exposure to noise.
Other: Maintain physical and electronic reports, records, and other required district documentation (have it available upon request).
