ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
Reports to: Controller
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK
PURPOSE: The Assistant Controller is a key member of the corporate accounting team and will assist with monthly financial statement preparation including Investments, intercompany transactions, fixed asset management and daily cash activities. This role reports to the Corporate Controller and collaborates closely with the leadership team, ensuring overall accountability for planning and reporting while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Implementation of processes to support the accounting team and leadership with the assessment of risk, segregation of duties, appropriate review process and timely & accurate reporting.
- Prepare monthly financial statements ensuring timely closure that aligns with national best practices as well as organizational goals while maintaining appropriate internal controls.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts regularly including creating schedules & analyzing data, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and review processes are in place.
- Oversight of company's daily cash transactions.
- Assists Corporate Controller with management of bank administration and reporting.
- Oversee corporate p-card administration.
- Creates, reviews, and approves accruals & other journal entries ensuring accurate entries are made, proper back up is provided, and appropriate approvals occur in alignment with our departmental guidelines and organizational timeline.
- Serve as a key liaison during internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Ability to find proactive solutions to prevent similar issues from occurring again.
- Facilitate corporate growth by providing department leaders with reporting, access and guidance to better understand their department financials and successfully manage their budgets
- Contribute to the corporate objective of raising our employees by sharing accounting knowledge with all team members aiding in growth and creating strong, knowledgeable team members with excellent communication.
- Manage the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and/or payroll.
- Become the subject matter expert and confident in reporting tools and process options related to the accounting technology used for financial reporting and analysis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Able to meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Able to handle confidential information.
- Must have superior people skills (intrapersonal and interpersonal).
- Knowledge of accounting best practices, general ledger, financial statements, and GAAP.
- Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
- Detailed-oriented
- Highly organized
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- PC based accounting, banking, Microsoft Office software, MAS90 desirable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a four-year accredited university/college.
- Seven (7) years of General Ledger Accounting experience with at least:
a. Five (5) years of month end closing experience.
b. Two (2) years financial statement preparation (multiple company experience preferred).
c. One (1) year overseeing/training/supervising.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current CPA or CMA license
- Experience with Sage Intacct
- Knowledge of Alaska Native Corporations
