Job Summary:
The Shift Brewer will be responsible for all aspects of the brewing process, including grain receiving and milling, wort production, fermentation, cellar work, quality assurance testing, and packaging. This is a day-shift position, but flexibility to assist with morning or late shifts as needed is required. In the near future, Alewerks production will adjust to a 3-tier rotating shift schedule. Ideal candidates will be open to this change.
Responsibilities:
- Operate the brewhouse with accuracy and attention to detail (milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, knockout, grain out).
- Perform cellar work, including cleaning fermenters, transferring beer, dry hopping, yeast harvesting and pitching, and carbonation.
- Conduct quality assurance testing.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Follow Alewerks' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and established recipes.
- Document brewing activities.
- Manage tanks (gravity, dumps, transferring).
- Communicate changes in recipes or processes to management.
- Communicate maintenance needs to ensure production schedules and team member safety.
- Assist with occasional packaging and warehouse work.
Qualifications:
- Formal brewing education or relevant experience.
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Ability to read and follow written English instructions.
- Safe chemical handling knowledge.
- Adaptable and solution-driven.
- Strong writing and math skills for accurate calculations.
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic machinery and systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver's license and reliable phone contact.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear regularly.
