Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Instructor (NJROTC)

Alexander Central High School

Full-time Twelve-month position with benefits

Available:  Immediately

 

General Statement of Job

Guide and direct students through learning experiences and social interactions. Provide instruction on leadership skills, navy and military service and citizenship skills.  

 

Required education and experience

  • Retirement from the military under honorable conditions; E7 or above
  • Must obtain a North Carolina Teaching License.
  • Instructors meet the physical readiness standards as set forth in the service regulations.
  • Possess or obtain a CDL within 6 months of being hired.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Instructors will be an Ambassador of the Navy and will exhibit only the highest levels of personal and professional conduct.
  • Maintain a professional military appearance in uniform.
  • Conduct academic classes.
  • Counsel and mentor cadets, helping them to identify and meet their college or career goals.
  • Lead before and/or after-school activities.
  • Conducting cadets in military drill, marksmanship, orienteering, physical training and other team activities.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of cadets is always observed during cadets’ participation in unit activities.
  • Maintain maintenance and storage of equipment, uniforms, weapons, and training supplies.
  • Requiring cadets to always conduct themselves in a military manner when under instructor supervision and that they observe military courtesies and traditions.
  • Recruit cadets for program eligibility.
  • Establishing community support and recognition of the program.
  • Establish a good working relationship with guidance counselors and faculty members.
  • Maintaining awareness of issues affecting, and organizational changes within, the Navy.
  • Assessing unit processes to ensure program objectives are met.
  • Attending Navy-sponsored training to keep abreast of program requirements and ensuring cadets are trained in accordance with current requirements.
  • Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records.
  • Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, parents, and community members in the education of students.

 

Additional duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.

 

 

 

Essential knowledge and abilities

  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules.
  • Requires strong teambuilding skills and physical stamina.
  • Require significant organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have a high degree of patience.
  • Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc.
  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants.  Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.
  • Must be able to exert 20 pounds or more of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
  • Are required to maintain the physical fitness standards set forth by the Navy.
