Position Description
Performs a wide variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the County’s Swim Beach. An employee in this class provides varied visitor services; performs semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance and other tasks at the County’s Swim Beach. The employee will be responsible for the maintenance of the beach area and the facilities located near the beach. There will be daily responsibilities to help maintain the cleanliness of the beach and its facilities. Dependability is key to successful operation. Duties may also expose the employee to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and regulations under the general supervision of the Parks Director.
Responsibilites
- Morning set-up and evening pick-up which includes unlocking/locking bathrooms, posting signs, and checking supplies.
- Deposits all revenue at the end of their shift.
- Assists visitors by providing information and directions; answers phones; responds to complaints; collects appropriate fees; maintains professional relations with other staff, and other agencies; and assists with special events and groups.
- Stocks concession stand, handles sales, and collects funds.
- Keeps various logs, such as, daily logs, number of visitors, etc.
- Responds to park emergencies and completes medical/incident reports.
- Performs routine maintenance work to include removal of litter.
- Cleans and stocks restrooms, empties garbage cans, and changes trash liners.
- Performs grounds maintenance to include fertilizing, watering, seeding, and raking; plants trees and shrubs, ground cover; assists with irrigation.
- Maintains signs, information panels, fences, gates, benches, tables, and parking lots.
- Enforce all beach rules and regulations.
- Performs related duties as required.
Special Conditions:
Employee will be required to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays. The employee will also be potentially subject to extremely hot conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Mathematical ability sufficient to handle fee collection.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff and a culturally diverse public.
- General knowledge of grounds maintenance and preservation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to learn to use office and minor equipment.
Required Minimum Education / Experience
- Graduation from high school and one year of customer service experience is required.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.
- Must possess a valid NC Driver's License.
