ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

Permanent Full-time 12-month position


General Statement of Job

To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.


Required education

  • Master’s degree or higher in School Administration.
  • Valid North Carolina administrator’s license.
  • Successful assistant principal experience.


Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Screens, selects, directs and evaluates performance of certified and classified staff members.
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
  • Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities.
  • Motivates employee performance and enhances morale.
  • Administers a balanced budget.
  • Supervises and manages site operation to assure safety and efficiency.
  • Ability to visualize and implement change.
  • Follows all rules, policies and procedures of Alexander County Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to all school issues.
  • Orients and assists new staff members and new students.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates the operations of the school.
  • Identifies annual objectives for the instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs of the school.
  • Supervises and appraises the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder.
  • Maintains inter-school communications and seeks assistance from central services staff to improve performance; maintains good relationships with students, staff and parents; complies with established lines of authority.
  • Develops an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on results.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.


Additional duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators and designated by the superintendent.
