ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL
Permanent Full-time 12-month position
General Statement of Job
To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Required education
- Master’s degree or higher in School Administration.
- Valid North Carolina administrator’s license.
- Successful assistant principal experience.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Screens, selects, directs and evaluates performance of certified and classified staff members.
- Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
- Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities.
- Motivates employee performance and enhances morale.
- Administers a balanced budget.
- Supervises and manages site operation to assure safety and efficiency.
- Ability to visualize and implement change.
- Follows all rules, policies and procedures of Alexander County Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to all school issues.
- Orients and assists new staff members and new students.
- Plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates the operations of the school.
- Identifies annual objectives for the instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs of the school.
- Supervises and appraises the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements.
- Demonstrates positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder.
- Maintains inter-school communications and seeks assistance from central services staff to improve performance; maintains good relationships with students, staff and parents; complies with established lines of authority.
- Develops an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on results.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
