POSITION: Associate Transportation Director

JOB SUMMARY: The Associate Transportation Director is responsible for assisting the Director of Student Services in overseeing the operations of the school district’s transportation system. This includes ensuring the safety and efficiency of bus routes, supervising drivers and staff, training new drivers and aides, and ensuring compliance with state laws and district policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and optimize bus routes and stops for safety and efficiency.
- May assign bus drivers for extracurricular and non-regular routes.
- Assist school staff and drivers with transportation-related concerns.
- Recruit transportation personnel.
- Train driver candidates in compliance with Indiana Law.
- Conduct driver training and enforce safety procedures.
- Monitor and support special needs students on transportation services.
- Monitor compliance with transportation policies and regulations.
- Maintain effective communication with parents, staff, and school personnel.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Transportation Director in their absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Possess and maintain a valid CDL License with all required school bus endorsements.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a school bus driver.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of school transportation laws and best practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts.
- Experience in supervising staff and managing daily transportation operations.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Indiana School Bus Certification (Yellow) Card.
- Working knowledge of the corporation’s geographic layout and boundaries.
- Able to work with and understand children.
- Confidentiality, trustworthiness, self-motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and stressful conditions.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
- Participates in required random drug/alcohol testing program.
- Willingness to improve and/or develop job-related skills.
- Excellent work habits, attendance record and must successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances.
