We are seeking a Laboratory Technician for Alexandria LaunchLabs located in Research Triangle, NC. This individual will be customer-focused, detail-oriented, and interested in contributing to the growth of the entrepreneurial life science ecosystem in the Triangle region. As a core member of the LaunchLabs team, this individual will help support our Laboratory Director on the day-to-day technical operations while also building relationships within our Alexandria LaunchLabs member community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Alexandria team in supporting LaunchLabs laboratories and site operations at the Alexandria Center® for Advanced Technologies and the Alexandria Center® for AgTech campuses, both located in Research Triangle, NC, as follows.
- Work with the Laboratory Director in support of the Alexandria LaunchLabs platform.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of shared lab equipment, such as freezers, incubators, centrifuges, and biosafety cabinets, to ensure efficient operations and cleanliness.
- Track annual preventive maintenance visits for site equipment.
- Order and maintain lab supplies and gases.
- Manage chemical and biohazard waste in laboratories, adhering to regulatory guidance.
- Assist with lab sustainability initiatives pertaining to plastics and lab gloves.
- Operate autoclave and lab dishwashers to support LaunchLabs members.
- Assist the Laboratory Director with the execution of LaunchLabs’ lab safety program.
- Build strong member relationships through daily member-facing interactions in addition to lab meetings, orientations, and member community events.
- Manage select vendor relationships.
- Assist with general site operations, programming, and events as assigned by Laboratory Director that foster a vibrant and collaborative community.
- Note: Duties may include the handling of hazardous materials.
Qualifications and Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a laboratory space and/or incubator/accelerator organization.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree required.
- Experience working in collaborative or shared working environments a plus.
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
- Possess an interest in life science, operations, and entrepreneurship.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and to prioritize effectively.
- Ability to frequently move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
