Position Overview:
Performs intermediate human support work providing math and reading intervention support, supervising students in the classroom, cafeteria and playground, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal.
Essential Functions:
Assist classroom teacher with student by guiding and reinforcing lessons; explain instructions and assignments to students one-on-one or in small groups; give make-up tests and quizzes; collect and maintain data as directed by the teacher; assist classroom teacher with preparatory materials.
Assist in supporting classroom discipline; assist in implementing behavior management programs; Assist the classroom teacher with student's IEP (Individual Education Plan) which may include swimming and adaptive physical education; assist with physical elements of hygiene, toileting, occupational therapy, feeding, clothing, diapering and transfers.
Supervise and monitor students on bus and playground, in study hall, locker room, lunchroom and hallways; inform teacher and/or principal of discipline problems; handle minor discipline situations according to district discipline guidelines; assist with behaviors and student needs during bus transportation of students.
Maintain communication with teacher regarding schedules, student progress and problem solving on a daily basis.
Attend meetings and in-services as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working with children preferred but not required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position does not require a license, however, some of our paraprofessional positions require candidates to be considered "highly qualified" under the Code of Federal Regulations.
Compensation: $21 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
