We have 5 openings for Commissioning Specialists. As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in executing start-up, commissioning, and training at customer locations for mechanical, electrical, and electronic components such as decanters, high-speed separators, or heat exchangers to ensure reliable operation, optimum performance, and efficiency. You will have the opportunity to perform start-up and commissioning according to specified procedures, provide customer training, and support project teams, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization. Currently, these are remote positions throughout the U.S. territory.

About The Job

As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in executing start-up, commissioning, and training at customer locations for mechanical, electrical, and electronic components such as decanters, high-speed separators, or heat exchangers to ensure reliable operation, optimum performance, and efficiency. You will have the opportunity to perform start-up and commissioning according to specified procedures, provide customer training, and support project teams, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization. Currently, these are remote positions throughout the U.S. territory.
As a Part Of The Team, You Will
- Perform start-up and commissioning according to specified procedures, including functionality tests FAT and completion of SAT tests.
- Report results and provide feedback to the project team.
- Provide customer training (classroom and hands-on) on our equipment operation and maintenance.
- Familiarize yourself with equipment parameters tuning to optimize performance.
- Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) flow charts.
- Perform site inspections & installation supervision prior to commissioning activities.
- Conduct pre-commissioning activities (IO check, vacuum test, dry runs, etc.) in person and digitally.
- Participate in customer meetings during startup, testing, and site activities.
- Provide remote support to customers.
- Set up commonly used instrumentation and electrical components such as flow meters, pressure/flow switches, VFD, etc.
- Understand basic electrical schematics and perform basic troubleshooting during startup.
- Assist project managers in ensuring that plants and systems delivered to customers meet specifications when shipped from Alfa Laval.
- Participate in project reviews to ensure that experiences from previous commissioning jobs are incorporated into new projects and standard concepts.
- Conduct performance reviews of installations already handed over to customers.
- Perform start-up of Alfa Laval equipment (installation, mechanical assembly, control parameters, motor ID runs, etc.).
- Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company and customer’s safety procedures in line with OSHA requirements.
- Create job time and expense reports, commissioning reports, and payroll reports as required by all field service technicians.
- Obtain signed Time Summary sheets/commissioning reports from the customer upon completion of the job.
- Perform Field Service jobs and training as needed.
- Interact with customers in a professional manner.
What You Know
You have a diploma/associate’s degree in engineering or a related field (bachelor’s degree a plus) with relevant experience, and:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience related to field service or equivalent experience.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, and electronic components such as decanters, high-speed separators, or heat exchangers.
- You demonstrate essential behaviors and skills, including advanced mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting electrical issues and controls, basic automation skills, and the ability to upload programs for controls/automation. You effectively communicate operational and safety parameters for Alfa Laval equipment to customers, exhibit strong customer service and sales orientation, and possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills. Additionally, you showcase the ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, work both independently and as a team player, and utilize basic PC skills in Word and Excel. You also learn and use systems required for the administration of service and expense reports.
