Job Summary
This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. In this role, the Engineer will be relied on to perform a variety of electrical engineering and design activities for a diverse array of projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff and with a strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability. They will represent the firm and interact with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members. Strong initiative and follow-through are essential.
Core Responsibilities
- Work closely with senior-level engineers through the electrical design and construction administration processes.
- Create and implement electrical designs in a BIM environment.
- Conduct analyses, review data, and prepare design options, recommendations, and cost estimates for consideration by senior engineers and/or managers.
- Assist in the planning and design of code-compliant electrical systems for commercial facilities, including education, healthcare, office facilities, data centers, life sciences, and other commercial and industrial projects.
- Assist senior-level engineers in reviewing electrical design and development plans and/or project cost estimates.
- Implement ATCE quality assurance procedures during the electrical design process (e.g., design criteria, design checklists, interdisciplinary coordination, schedules, etc.)
- Propose innovative solutions to design problems.
- Coordinate project scope, design, and deadlines with project managers/senior engineers and document changes and clarifications to scope, schedule, and budget, and advise project team accordingly.
- Assist with the preparation of Basis of Design (BOD) reports
- Write technical reports to document engineering analysis and findings.
- Assist with the preparation of voltage drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, breaker coordination studies, Arc Flash studies, etc.
- Edit standard material and construction specifications to match project requirements as part of the preparation of project specifications.
- Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews and respond to RFIs in a timely manner.
- May serve as a field engineer during construction by performing site visits and preparing written reports of observations.
- Work with a dedicated lighting team to design fully functional lighting and control systems.
- Act as a technical advisor to junior professional staff.
- Manage tasks as required to ensure work is completed on time and on budget.
- Attend and be an active participant in design and construction project team meetings.
- Coordinate, support, and communicate with colleagues across disciplines and receive direction from project leads.
- Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that designs are compliant with local Building/Energy Codes and LEED standards.
- Other initiatives as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 3-6 years of relevant experience in the design field.
- Knowledge of codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solutions-driven engineer who isn’t afraid to ask for help and works well in a team setting.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- General understanding of contract and construction documents.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, and other engineering analysis and compliance software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) license. Professional Engineer (PE) license, or pursuit of licensure, preferred.
- LEED accredited.
Essential Requirements
- Proficient in MS Suite of products
- Strong knowledge of national, state, and local building codes (NEC, energy codes, etc.)
- Proficient in Revit, BIM 360, and Bluebeam Revu
Salary Range
This is a hybrid role. It is anticipated that the working days in the office will be done at our San Francisco, CA office. The expected salary range for candidates who will work in San Francisco, CA is $85,000-$120,000. Exact compensation may vary based on prospective employee’s level of skill, experience, and location. ATCE is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
