General Inspector/Sampling Technician

Alfred H Knight has an opportunity for a General Inspector/Sampling Technician position with our Inspection team, based in the Reno, Nevada area. You will be responsible for ensuring client instructions are carried out at agreed consignment locations. Through conducting visual inspections and following agreed supervision processes and procedures, you will act as an independent party in order to verify compliance and provide detailed communications to clients regarding the handling of their commodities.

Required Knowledge 

• Able to send and receive accurate email and phone communications for coordination and scheduling of assignments and to communicate status updates.
• Able to read and interpret documents such as packing lists, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, safety instructions, etc.
• Able to follow directions.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Must have the ability to convey details through accurate, professional and timely communications (verbal, written and in person) including taking photographs and producing thorough and detailed written reports.
• Maintain a professional and independent position for all assignments.
• Must be reliable and able to organise and operate independently (training will be provided).
• Must be respectful, able to work well with others, communicate effectively, handle conflict resolution and maintain positive, courteous and professional relationships with colleagues, clients and on and off site personnel. 
• Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, G-mail, Google Drive).
• Must have a good grasp of basic mathematics (counting, verifying quantities and weights).
• Follow appropriate health and safety policies and procedures at all times, including site-specific requirements.
• Maintain work areas, records and equipment in a clean, organized and functional condition.

Required Work Experience 

• Experience in material sampling and inspection practices is preferred but not essential. 
• Experience in warehousing, port operations, logistics, processing or general hands-on tasks is desirable.
• TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials allow access to US Ports) preferred. If working in a location where TWIC is required, candidates must be able to pass the background and security requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role including lifting up to 50lbs, walking, standing, reaching, bending, climbing, sampling and driving.
• Must have an understanding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and regulations, as PPE will be required based on site requirements and regulations. 
• Must have a valid and clean Driving Licence.
• Must have a personal vehicle suitable for transportation to assignments (expenses will be reimbursed).
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Travel / Rotation Requirements 

• Willing to work flexible hours (weekends and long days as needed).
• Willing to travel to remote inspection locations when required (including overnight stays as needed).
• Main work site is based in Reno, Nevada. There may also be occasions when there are additional assignments, which take place at other locations (including overnight stays as needed).

Salary : $80,000
