Alfred H Knight has an opportunity for a General Inspector to work with our Inspection team, based in the Longview, Texas area. You will be responsible for ensuring client instructions are carried out at agreed consignment locations, acting as an independent party to verify compliance with agreed processes and inspection and supervision procedures and providing details to clients regarding the handling of their product/s.

RESPONSIBILITIES
General Responsibilities
- Manual Tasks: Performing a variety of physical tasks, including but not limited to manual sampling, sample reduction, moving materials, applying security seals and observation of weighing operations.
- Tool and Equipment Operation: Operating hand tools, power tools and utilization of specialized industry tools as needed for the specific tasks.
- Following Instructions: Adhering to instructions and procedures provided by supervisors or project leaders.
- Safety Compliance: Maintaining a safe work environment by following safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift, carry and move heavy objects, and also the capability to potentially stand or walk for extended periods.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
To be successful at Alfred H Knight, you will need to display the following:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Read and interpret documents such as packing lists, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, safety instructions, etc.
- Follow directions ensuring the results are accurate and reported promptly.
- Working knowledge of MS Office suite (primarily MS Word and Excel).
- Work well with others and independently.
- Able to lift to 50 lbs.
- Maintain a professional and independent position for all assignments.
- Effective communication skills with onsite and office-based staff.
- Must be detail oriented and have the ability to convey details through written reports and photographs.
- Must be reliable and able to organise and operate independently (training will be provided).
- Computer literate (Word, Excel, G-mail, Google Drive, etc) and good mathematical skills.
- Positive attitude.
Required Work Experience
- Experience in material sampling and inspection practices is preferred.
- TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials allow access to US Ports) preferred. If working in a location where TWIC is required, candidate must be able to pass the background and security requirements.

- Basic Math Skills: The ability to perform basic calculations relating to weighing operations and/or physical counting.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers in addition to any worksite staff.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and occasionally climb a ladder.
- Must have a valid and clean Driving Licence.
- Must have a personal vehicle suitable for transportation to assignments.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Travel / Rotation Requirements
- Depending on the location, some travel may be required, including overnight stays.
- Willing to travel to remote inspection locations when required.
