QA Lab Tech-Microbiology Laboratory Technician

Applicant must be available to work the following schedule:
Weekend 1st Shift: Friday - Sunday, 6:00am - 6:00pm

 

Basic Functions
Support Algood’s core values by incorporating them in daily thoughts and actions.
The Microbiology Laboratory Technician is responsible for the growth, structure, development and general characteristics of bacteria and other microorganisms by performing work in a microbiology laboratory.

 
Organizational Relationships

Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager    Supervises: No Direct Reports

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•    Maintain inventory, orders, stock materials and equipment for laboratory use.
•    Issue and maintain records of materials.
•    Maintain documentation of process to facilitate analysis procedures.
•    Formulate detailed observations, document results of finished product and ingredients.
•    Perform data analysis based on results. 
•    Collect and prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending.
•    Promptly communicate findings that fall outside of allowable limits.
•    Constantly evaluate and improve the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control methods.
•    Maintain knowledge of United States, Canadian, and other applicable food regulatory requirements.
•    Continuously improve professional knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies. 
•    Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
•    Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
•    Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
•    Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

•    Ability to maintain considerable concentration with frequent time pressures and interruptions.
•    Ability to maintain visual attention for extended periods of time.
•    Must be detail oriented and organized.  
•    Ability to process work with accuracy. 
•    Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
•    Ability to occasionally stand for extended periods of time.
•    Ability to occasionally lift or carry minimal weights up to 25 pounds.
•    Ability to occasionally reach, squat, kneel, climb, push, or pull.
•    Ability to manipulate necessary office equipment, computer software, hardware, and equipment.

Working Environment and Conditions
This position operates in a professional office environment which is climate controlled and a low noise area.

Travel

This position requires less than 20% travel on an as needed basis.

Qualifications


Education, Experience, and Training
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
•    3 to 5 years related experience, preferably in a food microbiology laboratory setting.
•    Equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Strong knowledge of U.S. and International Regulations preferred
