FUNCTION
Responsible for managing all applications, reporting and management of relationships with public grant making opportunities to secure funding and support for the Ali Forney Centers (AFC) mission. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong communications skills. A proven track record in grants writing and government fundraising is needed. The Government Grants Manager will collaborate closely with the Deputy Executive Director of Development to execute fundraising strategies and achieve revenue goals, thereby increasing AFC's capacity for active outreach to new partners while managing inbound partnerships. An understanding of government bodies, fundraising systems and grant tracking is critical to success in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management:
- Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately $10M in government source (city, state, and federal) grant revenue, overseeing outreach, LOI, tours, meetings, grant applications, execution, stewardship, and renewal of grants.
- Display adherence to the organizations mission and maintain proficient knowledge of Ali Forney Centers history and programs.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue for each existing funding relationship.
- Coordinate, maintain, and prepare operational records and documentation of grant activities.
- Manage annual grant calendar for public sources to meet critical deadlines.

Prospect Generation:
- Identify, cultivate, and secure funding opportunities to support the work of the agency.
- Develop tailored funding applications, reporting, data collection to support grant making efforts.
- Emphasize exceeding annual revenue targets through proactive prospecting and identification of new funding opportunities.
- Work with agency leadership and lay leadership to make necessary introductions to committees or representatives who could advise .
Collaboration and Teamwork:- Work closely with the President and Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director of Development, Foundation Grants Manager, and the development team and advocacy team to integrate the various roles each member of the team plays in building foundation partnerships.
- Collaborate with programmatic staff to align government support with AFC's programs and initiatives.
- Improvise on standard operating procedures to systematize how government relationships are tracked, solicited, stewarded and acknowledged.

Reporting:
- Prepare regular reports for funding sources with a strategic lens on how to grow the partnership with the agency or representative.
- Work with the Programs Team, Advocacy Team and Development Team to identify the key areas needing support and coordinate the various data points needed to make a strong case for support.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience, specifically in nonprofit development with a focus on building and managing government grants.
- Proven track record of securing significant grant support and meeting government fundraising goals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to gather necessary data and write convincingly.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies.
- A strong collaborator with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to design and execute realistic timelines, task delegation, and project management during grant-seeking processes.
- Professional acumen in all interactions and the highest level of integrity, including adherence to the Grant Professionals Association and Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics.
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
- Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, and spreadsheet manipulation.
- Proven ability to gather information and synthesize narrative content from multiple sources.
- Passion for LGBTQ rights and youth homelessness issues.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed, for events and donor meetings.
- Knowledge of LGBTQ issues and familiarity with the New York City nonprofit landscape is a plus.
