- The Licensed Professional Nurse/Surgical Technician cares for pediatric through geriatric patients.

- Auditory senses intact (able to hear patients, alarms, emergency bells, overhead pages, etc.).

- Performance Expectation
- Assists surgeon as scrub nurse according to prescribed standards.
- Scrubs, dons gown and gloves in accordance with performance standards.
- Sets up table, instruments and supplies according to type of operation.
- Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative area according to need.
- Assists and anticipates needs of surgeon in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique, procedure and special requirements.
- Observes patient and is ready for emergencies.
- Maintains correct count of sponges, needles and instruments with circulating nurse and reports correctness and discrepancies as setup in standard policy and procedure.
- Maintains aseptic technique at all times as dictated by standard procedure.
- Assists in maintenance and care of specimens as directed by standard procedure.
- Assists in application of dressing, casts, and in moving of patient as directed.
- Decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies, and cleans room as directed in procedure.
- Assists in surgical team as 2nd circulator when directly supervised by a Registered Professional Nurse who is functioning as 1st circulator.
- Complies and makes available all necessary supplies according to the needs of patient and surgical team.
- Provides special equipment before, during and after procedure by correct positioning, care and use of aseptic technique.
- Position patients, adjusts table and other equipment as directed before, during and following procedure.
- Prepares operative area and assists with draping as directed.
- Assists the scrub nurse in maintenance of correct count of sponges, needles and instruments as directed.
- Observes patient and condition, and is prepared for all emergencies in manners prescribed.
- Assists in maintenance of aseptic technique at all times.
- Maintains and cares for all specimens as directed to prevent loss or damage.
- Assists in application of dressing, moving of patient and transfer to Recovery Room as directed.
- Assists in housekeeping duties and cleanliness of the department as directed to insure safe patient environment.
- Cleans rooms, furniture, equipment, and suite according to prescribed procedures.
- Maintains traffic control through use of proper areas and corridors at all times.
- Maintains use and cleanliness of autoclaves by following directions of use and cleaning.
- Assists in maintenance of instruments and supplies by proper cleaning, care, utilization and sterilization as directed.
- Assists in conductivity and bacteriological counts as directed to assure safety.
- Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel and patients.
- Assists in maintenance, care and cleanliness of supplies.
- Handles equipment and items correctly to insure ever present usability and safety of supplies and materials.
- Maintains adequate supplies in the suite to insure availability during procedures.
- Assists in workroom in cleaning, storage, packing and autoclaving of instruments.
- Assists in inventory of supplies and equipment to assure availability and maintain set level.
- Assists in storing and stocking of supplies as directed.
- Knows where all supplies are kept and is able to get or put them away accordingly.
- Distributes supplies to rooms and suite as directed according to use, number and items.
- Works on-call and performs all related duties as prescribed.
- Maintains and increases standards of performance and education.
- Attends all department in-service meetings and assists in preparation and instigation of learning experiences.
- Assists in staff's development and revision of procedures and related items.
