Primary Purpose:
To ensure that USDA regulations, AISD policies and procedures are upheld and employees work together in a cooperative spirit to best serve the interest of the students and district.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College degree preferred
- College courses in Nutrition, Institutional Management and or Management preferred
- State of Texas or ANSI accredited Food Service Manager’s Certification required
- Valid Texas driver’s license with safe driving record
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Being computer literate
- Proficiency in effective communication (written and spoken) skills
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills
- Basic math skills – computation in addition, multiplication and fractions
- Able to implement policy and procedures
Experience:
- Two (2) years of successful Food Service management experience in high volume production, school food service experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Nutrition Operations
- Supervise daily operations of assigned facilities (5 or less), including staffing/training, food safety/quality, staff/students/parents relations, financial management, and special functions. Report findings to supervisor.
- Monitor facilities for sound financial management in controlling labor costs, inventory and cash receipts. Detect financial difficulties/irregularities and work with supervisor to develop and oversee plan for corrective action.
- Meet with assigned supervisor to review day’s activities. Communicate all pertinent information to supervisor as needed and in a timely manner.
- Monitor and evaluate employee performance – (Hold managers accountable for their responsibilities. Manager, in turn, holds staff responsible). If employee fails to follow a procedure, teach and/or conference with employee to insure expectations are understood. If deficiencies continue, discuss with supervisor. Take appropriate action per supervisor.
- Must work in various schools, as needed.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate and work well with others.
- Available after regular duty hours to attend meetings, coordinate/cater school functions, for emergencies and to audit meal programs.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Follow and enforce all USDA/TDA, Health Department, Nutrition Department and District policies and procedures.
- Maintain assigned vehicle and report needed maintenance.
Safety
- Inspect facilities for compliance with District/Department’s P&P HACCP, USDA and City/County Health Department regulations, standards for sanitation, safety, storage, preparation and service.
- Mentally alert and avoid situations that could harm others in a potentially dangerous environment.
Other
- Must obtain minimum required annual Professional Standard training hours, per USDA regulations.
- Must attend required training, in-service and work related activities.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist in supervision of assigned schools.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Nutrition Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; district vehicle, large and small kitchen equipment.
Posture: Standing, sitting; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; walking, reaching, wrist turning, grasping, and finger manipulating
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse
Vision and Hearing: Moderate to Maximum
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds), if over 20 pounds must use cart for transport and ask for assistance.
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel. Temperature range from -10o F to 130o F and work in various weather conditions.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
