Primary Purpose:
To assist speech language pathologists in providing comprehensive services to eligible students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school graduate or GED
- Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Effective communication, human relations and interpersonal skills
- PC literate including Word, Outlook, and spreadsheet knowledge
- Flexible and able to adjust daily routine
- Able to interpret instructions, complete tasks within timelines and multi-task
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
- Ability to follow a schedule
Experience:
- Experience in Special Education preferred
- Experience with Clear Touch/Smartboard and/or Zoom technology preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Interpreter (English/Spanish) for speech therapy sessions.
- Escort students to/from therapy sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality while working with student information.
- Assist in administering the Spanish edition of the criterion referenced assessments with the campus SLP present.
- Assist in copying and translating written documents.
- Assist in making therapy materials.
- Assist SLP with behavior management.
- Travel within district boundaries.
- Assist in distributing parent letters and other documents to teachers.
- Assist in collecting documents from teachers.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
