Fabricator (Check & Straighten)

Summary:

Assist workers engaged in fabrication of structural or sheet metal products by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Lifts, positions, and removes workpieces from machines to assist in fitting and welding.
• Holds tape and rods and marks reference points to assist in layout.
• Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
• Attaches rope or grappling equipment to workpieces to pregare workpiece for moving by crane or jib.
• Cleans and scrapes metal preparatory to fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping.
• Paints metal stocks.
• Picks up and trucks scrap from work areas.
• Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Performs other routine duties.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Must have (2) two years fabrication experience.
• Must be able to read blueprints and have a basic understanding of them.
• Basic knowledge of measuring equipment.   (calipers, measuring tape, protractor)
• Experience using hand tools and basic fabrication equipment.  (Grinders, Saws, Band Saws, Drill Presses, hammers, routers)

Education and/or Experience:
• Associates degree and related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Work near moving mechanical parts.
• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
