Description
The Data Scientistin the Research and Development (R&D) group at Align works closely with our cross-functional teams in IT, software, marketing, clinical, and operation teams. This individual will work on Aligns digital clinical database to develop and deliver data-driven insights, metrics, and recommendations to assist teams to drive the company's product development roadmap and transform the orthodontic world with the Invisalign product.
Role expectations
- Apply advanced data analytics to derive insights from production data and clinical studies and contribute to product development projects
- Work on full-stack data analysis: Defining problems, data collection through SQL queries, data cleaning & wrangling, exploratory & confirmatory analyses, data visualization and storytelling
- Responsible for constructing technical hypotheses, performing statistical analyses, and interpreting analysis results to support data-driven decision making for product development
- Identify key insights from analytical results, prepare well-documented reports/presentations and share with internal/external stakeholders
- Work collaboratively and independently in the design, analysis, and interpretation of prospective and retrospective clinical studies
- Participate in the review and update of bench-top testing best practice methodologies, including design of experiment, and statistical significance of results in support of product research team
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Invisalign products and operational procedures
- Provide product/clinical analytics expertise within the R&D group, including product engineering, materials, software, and clinical research teams
- Build effective working relationships with management and connect with diverse cross-functional teams both locally and globally
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet critical deadlines and priority changes
- MS or PhD in data analytics, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, or related technical field
- 3 years of relevant industrial experience in data analytics and modeling. An appropriate combination of education, skills, and experience can be substituted for total years
- Experience with querying relational databases (e.g. SQL)
- Experience with scripting languages such as R or Python
- Experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complicated quantitative concepts to non-technical audiences and interact cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical people
- Dental, medical device or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
