We are seeking a Billing Specialist to join our team at Retina Consultants! You will be working with insurance companies to ensure all claims are processed in a timely manner and join the Billing Operations team with a focus on teamwork and customer service. Duties
- Responsible to ensure all claims are processed according to compliance/ coding laws and regulations, charges are applied, reviewed, and posted timely.
- Ensure that claims are reimbursed according to allowable/contractual amounts based on assigned payors and review and appeal underpaid claims as needed using forms/system processes required by payors.
- Research/investigate overpayment/underpayment accounts and process refunds to insurance or patients accordingly.
- Review and monitor payor websites and newsletters to stay current on changes/rules for assigned payor groups.
- Assist with obtaining benefit information and authorizations/ referrals when required.
- Support the front office staff when needed and answer incoming calls regarding patient billing questions.
Skills
- Commitment to high level of customer/patient service
- Familiarity with ICD-10 codes and procedures
- Working knowledge of medical jargon and anatomy preferred
- Requires ability to work as a team member
- Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy
- Understand basic accounting debit/credit rules
- Requires skills in operating computers, word processing software, fax machines, copier machines.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and be proficient at multi-tasking
Minimum Qualifications
- Prefer 1-2 year minimum of front desk receptionist or office administration experience
- Experience working in a medical office and/or experience in Billing a plus
- Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, and coworkers.

- Interacts with fellow employees in a way that promotes harmony and cooperation.
- Follows HIPPA Policies and Procedures outlined in Privacy Manual.
