Physician Assistant Job Opportunity – Surgical Specialty

We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant with at least 3 years of surgical experience to join our practice focused exclusively on gender affirming surgery. This is a high-responsibility role that requires technical skill, independent thinking, and strong leadership in both the OR and clinic.

Key Qualities We Value

• Loves surgery and is eager to refine their technical skills.

• Moves cases forward in the OR by anticipating next steps and increasing efficiency.

• Thrives under pressure in a fast-moving, high-acuity environment.

• Works well with a diverse team and fosters a positive work environment.

• Handles feedback constructively and maintains a bias toward solutions, not complaints.

• Takes full ownership of patient care, from clinic to post-op follow-up.

• Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and punctuality across all duties.

• Proactive and self-sufficient—anticipates needs and solves problems without prompting.

• Excellent communicator—ensures closed-loop, timely communication with MDs, nurses, and admin staff.

Key Responsibilities

Operating Room (OR) Responsibilities

• Ensures smooth, efficient OR flow—anticipates needs, ensures all necessary instruments and supplies are available.

• Always takes initiative to move cases forward and minimize inefficiencies.

• Maintains full engagement during procedures—no drifting attention.

• Acts as a second set of eyes for the surgeon, ensuring safe, ethical care.

• Independently performs:

• Mastectomies: Full case, including markings, dissection, closure, and grafting.

• Vaginoplasties: Assists in markings, setup, skin graft harvesting, and suturing.

• Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS): Bone contouring, flap dissection, fat grafting, liposuction, and plating.

• Phalloplasty: Microsurgical assistance, loupes, free flap monitoring.

Clinic & Rounding Responsibilities

• Independently runs clinic and takes full ownership of pre-op and post-op care.

• Closes the loop on patient care—proactively follows up on any unresolved issues.

• Recognizes when care needs escalation and communicates accordingly.

• Sees all inpatient post-op patients daily—communicates with hospital teams and coordinates care.

• Sees ED patients independently, assesses urgency, and coordinates next steps.

On-Call & Emergency Responsibilities

• Shared call responsibility (every 3 weeks, decreasing as more PAs join).

• Handles urgent patient calls, ED consults, and triages issues appropriately.

• Must be highly independent in managing urgent and post-op complications.

• Strong judgment on when to admit a patient or bring them back to the OR.

Teamwork & Communication

• Fosters a positive team culture—creates a professional, supportive environment for RNs, scrub techs, and MAs.

• Handles conflict maturely and productively—resolves disagreements without drama.

• Communicates effectively with MDs and staff—ensures closed-loop communication on all patient-related matters.

• Proactively provides updates to MDs on inpatient rounding, complications, or urgent issues.

• Attends weekly PA planning meetings and ensures OR/Clinic coverage for all MDs.

Timeliness & Professionalism

• On time for OR cases, clinic, rounds, and meetings—no exceptions.

• Prepares and confirms all OR equipment and supplies before cases.

• Executes all patient care responsibilities without needing reminders.

• Documents all patient encounters (clinic visits, calls, post-op checks) promptly.

Work Ethic & Problem Solving

• Demonstrates constant curiosity, growth, and problem-solving mindset.

• Proactively finds efficiencies in clinical workflow instead of just identifying problems.

• Takes personal responsibility for the quality of patient care and outcomes.

• Never minimizes or delays care—always acts in the patient’s best interest.

What We’re Looking For

We are not just looking for a skilled PA—we need someone who is dedicated, independent, and adaptable. The right fit for our team is someone who:

✔ Takes full ownership of their role—anticipates issues and acts proactively.

✔ Works with urgency, precision, and efficiency—particularly in the OR.

✔ Demonstrates a team-first mindset and fosters a positive workplace.

✔ Handles feedback constructively and focuses on solutions, not excuses.

✔ Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and never leaves loose ends.

This is a demanding, high-responsibility role, but for the right PA, it’s also an incredible opportunity to refine advanced surgical skills and play a pivotal role in gender-affirming surgery.
