Position Summary:
Responsible for implementing nursing care in accordance with the program procedures established by the Medical Director and Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of all students. Assists with the therapeutic program for all components of the inpatient addiction of recovery program.
- Assesses guest and identifies nursing problems; performs luggage search, and a body search on new female students. A male facilitator will search the male students.
- Establishes priorities and set guest goals congruent with other therapies
- Communicates care plan through Kardex, shift report and conferences.
- Protects student’s rights and confidentiality.
- Plans nursing standards designed to meet therapeutic goals and guest needs including patient education, with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, and counselors.
- Evaluates guest responses to program and reports to physician(s) and counselors any objective and subjective observations of guest behavior.
- Delegates nursing actions to insure maximal utilization of resources.
- Performs nursing actions requiring highly specialized skills
- Utilities ancillary departments for specialized guest needs.
- Plans a therapeutic environment; maintains a clean and orderly department.
- Increases professional knowledge by reading professional journals and books and attending nursing in-services, staff meetings and continuing education programs
- Participates, as indicated, in the therapy program of the departments.
- Assists in the maintenance of a therapeutic environment for family members.
- Assists Family Director or his designate with admission of family members and the search of their luggage and valuables.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the treatment approach required for the dually diagnosed.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings as indicated.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary environment by applying principals of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions.
- Provide guest education on healthcare as assigned or appropriate.
- Implement safety and emergency procedures during fire drills and other disaster procedures.
- Assists the physician as needed during medical history interview exams.
- Is passionate and thorough about safety in the workplace and abides by all drug reconciliation protocols set forth by Little Hill foundation and TJC.
- Performs any other functions assigned by the Director of Nursing within the level of his/her competence.
- Demonstrates good guest management skills, interacts appropriately with guests treating him/her at all times with dignity and respect.
- Promotes and encourages a cooperative working relationship within the department and other departments.
- Provides day to day care of patients by monitoring vital signs and withdrawal symptoms; administering IV’s and IM’s as prescribed; administering prescribed medications ordered by the doctor; maintaining the patients daily chart according to TJC standards; evaluating the effectiveness of care and making adjustments accordingly.
- Maintain and demonstrate through competency testing a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on State and Federal guidelines.
- Maintains patient files by completing nursing assessments on clients; making relevant entries to patient files; monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition using computerized documentation; completing discharge assessments and paperwork as required.
Qualifications:
Educational:
- Registered Nurse with Licensure in State of New Jersey or current LPN in the State of New Jersey.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or an accredited vocational school of nursing.
Experience:
- Special work in alcoholism and/or drug therapy preferred, but not required.
- Basic knowledge of computers preferred.
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Must currently possess a valid certification for CPR/AED or be willing and able to obtain such certification within a reasonable period following hire.
- Must be physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of job.
