About the Role
As a Contract Finance Officer, you’ll work remotely to support local municipalities, counties, and cities, with a key focus on rural governments. With in-state residency and occasional travel, you will provide vital financial expertise to help ensure stability, transparency, and operational success. This part-time contract position requires a deep understanding of government finance, with an emphasis on direct operational roles with some consulting and bookkeeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight: Develop and manage budgets, revenue forecasts, and financial plans tailored to the needs of rural municipalities.
- Rural Community Support: Partner with rural government leaders to address financial challenges and enhance fiscal stability.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to public-sector finance standards and regulatory requirements.
- Audit Preparation: Prepare and maintain financial records and systems to meet audit requirements and promote transparency.
- Infrastructure Support: Provide financial planning and guidance for capital improvement projects in rural communities.
- Policy Implementation: Deliver actionable insights to inform decisions that improve local government services and infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in government finance or accounting, including at least 5 years as a finance officer or equivalent role in a local or county government setting.
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong knowledge of GASB standards, state-specific finance laws, and public-sector compliance requirements.
- Rural Government Experience: Proven history of working with smaller, resource-limited municipalities to achieve impactful financial outcomes.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally to local municipalities for in-person meetings or projects as needed.
