Job Summary: The Staff Education Coordinator assists the Director of Staff Education (DSE) to facilitate the Hospital wide education program and ensure compliance with Joint Commission (JC), DMH, CMS, DPH and any other regulatory agencies. Supports and delivers educational opportunities which meet the overall mission and vision of the facility to provide excellent care within a trauma informed framework.
Qualifications
Collaborates with the Director of Staff Education (DSE) to plan and implement educational services that meet the high treatment standards expected of staff. Assists the DSE in meeting the hospital’s goal of incorporating the principles and practices of trauma-informed care and the Six Core Strategies. Ensures milieu staff engagement. Teaches group facilitation skills to ensure independent practice.
• Provides on-unit training, modeling, and mentoring of required skills to new MHCs and nurses as needed.
• Meets regularly with the Senior Mental Health Counselors, providing constructive feedback within scope of practice and facility education objectives.
• Demonstrates expertise in trauma informed care and the Six Core Strategies and can provide training and support in implementing these practices in the clinical setting.
• Is a “presence” on the units to demonstrate excellence in patient care; trauma informed approaches, positive interaction and overall supportive milieu management in collaboration with the Senior Mental Health Counselors, Nurse Managers and Nursing Supervisors.
• Able to teach and model group treatment and demonstrates and teaches excellence and consistency in group leadership skills both in the classroom and on-unit with goal of autonomous performance.
• Regularly attends codes to ensure trauma informed and CPI skills are utilized.
• Conducts debriefing sessions post codes or other significant unit events.
• In collaboration with the DSE and as a result of direct unit involvement able to assess staff
need for training regarding safety, psychiatric and medical issues of patients
• Responsible for addressing behavior of staff that is reactive, punitive or contributes to escalation in collaboration with unit leadership. This would include direct intervention at the time, supervision with the individual staff person, referral to Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor, Director of Staff Education, or Chief Nursing Officer.
• Ensures the necessary documents including policies and procedures, training materials, calendars, staff attendance and all other relevant documents are prepared, organized and available for orientation, annual training and any other in-service offerings under the direction of the DSE.
• Assists in the development of curriculum and provides training for the orientation and annual training of staff as assigned by the DSE
• Provides coordination and scheduling for the Quality Mental Health Counselor series.
• Attends the Senior Mental Health Counselor meetings quarterly to provide support,
information and obtain input to promoting two-way communication.
• As directed, participates in QI and RPI team initiatives.
• Adheres to dress code.
• Is punctual and has good record of attendance. Follows all facility policies and is a superior representative of the nursing department on-site and in the community.

Essential Competencies:
• Knowledge of bio-psychosocial factors, trauma informed care, 6 Core strategies, andcultural competence.
• Knowledge of clinical and developmental needs of adults, adolescents, older adults and persons with dual diagnoses (substance abuse and mental health)
• Knowledge of psychiatric and substance use disorders and their treatment
• Ability to teach, mentor and supervise.
• Ability to use strength-based strategies with staff and clients.
• Excellent communication skills
• Organizational ability to plan, coordinate activities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaborative learning
• Knowledge of sensory resources with ability to teach staff on utilization as a tool for managing emotions and behavior
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in field of human services or nursing degree required.
- If nurse, licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.
- At least three years of experience in a behavioral health setting. Experience creating and executing trainings preferred.

Hours:
- 40 hours/week
- Must be able to work evenings, nights and weekends according to staff educational needs
