Position Summary:
Responsible for maintaining the quality of psychiatric care within the facility. Will provide psychiatric diagnosis, medication, monitoring, and consultation for patients.
Primary Responsibilities

- Responsible for maintaining the quality of psychiatric care within the facility. Will provide psychiatric diagnosis, medication, monitoring, and consultation for patients.
- Acts as a resource to patients, employees and psychiatric staff for resolution of problems related to patient care.
- Serves as liaison between psychiatric staff, employees and administration.
- Serves as role model for other physicians, demonstrating quality practice, documentation and communication. .
- Actively participates in assigned committees
- Ensures adequate psychiatric coverage is provided. Provides on-call services as required
- Completes a Psychiatric Evaluation on all assigned patients within 72 hours of admission.
- Provides services to assigned patients including psychiatric evaluations, medication management and mental status assessments of patients.
- Prescribes medication appropriate to the patient within the policies and practices of the Company. Works with treatment team to minimize the use of psychotropic medications with a focus of removing patients from controlled or additive medications if clinically appropriate
- Determines a psychiatric diagnosis per DSM-V or subsequent publication and documents the diagnosis in the patient’s medical record within 24 hours of admission. Clarifies diagnoses on an on-going basis, specifically addressing rule outs and other diagnoses discussed in treatment team meetings.
Qualifications
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved medical school. M.D. / D.O. Degree. Fellowship training as needed.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible. License in good standing to practice medicine on the State of Arizona. Must have a DEA number, have or be willing to obtain a DEA Waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine. CPR and PRI Certified
- Five years previous experience in a eating disorder setting strongly preferred.
- Five years’ work experience with patient population served preferred.
- Five years’ medical administrative experience preferred.
- Three years supervisor experience preferred.
- Meets active staff credentialing requirements.
- Ability to hear alarms and pages and capability of being on call.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, multi-task, coordinate projects and record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes.
- Occasional/limited exposure to: Infection and to the risk of bloodborne diseases; hazardous agents, body fluids and wastes; unpleasant patient or departmental elements; to potentially violent/aggressive patients/staff/visitors, critical incidents, and/or sentinel events. Occasionally needed to work irregular hours or additional hours.
