The General Purpose of the Dietetic Tech Position:
The Dietetic Tech assists Registered Dietitians in providing Medical Nutrition Therapy. Continuously monitors each patient’s nutrition care plan. Serves as part of the patient care team and communicates accurate and timely nutrition information. Provides nutrition education as required to patients.
Primary Responsibilities of the Dietetic Tech Position (include but are not limited to):
- Review initial patient nutrition assessment and review meal plan, tube feeding and/or supplements orders.
- Maintain accurate database of patient’s nutrition information, weights, etc. and communicate information with the patient care team.
- Communicate with Kitchen Services team re: patient meal plans, allergies, etc.
- Keep track of patient refusals and weight restoration graphs.
- Prepare materials and educate patients, as required per program schedule and documenting per facility protocol.
- Represent the Company as requested to educate the family members and professionals.
- Review and monitor patient menus, diet orders and tube feeding/ supplements on an ongoing basis. Communicate any concerns with Supervisor and RD.
- Interact with patients, family members, internal staff, outpatient providers and other external entities professionally and respectfully, supporting the Company’s mission.
Qualifications
Education, Skills and Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Arizona Food Handlers’ Card or obtain within 30 days of hire. Manager certification preferred.
- One year of acute inpatient with psychiatric care experience preferred.
- At least 2years experience with food services in an inpatient hospital or behavioral health setting with emphasis on clinical and tray-line responsibilities preferred.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License required.
- Might be required to pass clearance for a Level I Fingerprint Card.
- Ability to complete CPR/First Aide/ CPI training and certification.
- Ability to provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to effectively listen, process received information, and express ideas both orally and in writing.
- Ability to initiate action, take personal responsibility, suggest improvements, and solve problems within scope of job without being asked.
- Ability to understand and comply with government, regulatory, and hospital rules.
- Ability to record, report, and maintain confidentiality of information and respond to requests for information.
- Ability to get assigned work done in an acceptable manner, in the time allotted, with minimal prompting or reminders.
