Schedule
Standard work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Some overtime may be required during peak periods, such as fiscal year-end and audit season.

Job Summary
The accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records, performing general accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and procedures. This role supports the financial operations of the nonprofit organization by managing daily accounting tasks, preparing financial reports, and assisting the Senior Accountant and/or Vice-president of Finance & Accounting with month-end and year-end close processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and update accounting records and files.
- Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Provide detailed analysis and explanations of variances.
- Support the Senior Accountant and/or Vice-president of Finance & Accounting in financial reporting tasks.
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the organization.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant and/or Vice President of Finance & Accounting.
- Continuously seek to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to identify and resolve accounting issues.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
- At least two years of accounting experience or education required.
- CPA certification or progress toward certification preferred.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector preferred.
