Job Summary
As a Medication Technician, responsibilities include assisting medical professionals in the administration of medications to clients. Responsible for ensuring that clients receive their medication at the scheduled time. Requires supervising the self-administration of medication and to monitor client’s compliance with program guidelines. Must be well-versed in medication administration techniques, knowledgeable of medications, and be able to identify any side effects, adverse reactions of any medications. Following strict policies and procedures for documentation, record keeping, and communication plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of the clients. Work requires basic concern for quality of care under the guidance and supervision of the Program Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Administering medication to clients in accordance with their care plan.
• Monitoring, recording clients and children's symptoms and vital signs as needed.
• Reporting and documenting any changes in client's conditions to the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and Program Director.
• Ensuring proper handling and storage of medications.
• Refilling and organizing medication carts, as needed.
• Counting new medications and creating a Medication Self-Administration Record (MSAR).
• Maintaining inventory, ordering medication supplies and consulting with LVN and Program Director.
• Provides operational support to residents in the facility and provides client-support to clinical staff.
• Monitors client self-administration of medications and accurately documents each administration. Follow medical order by the medical staff regarding client medication.
• Daily tasks can include tracking medication orders and dosage changes, following doctor’s and LVN orders, and obtaining client vital signs.
• Accurate and detailed documentation is essential to ensure that clients receive the correct medication, at the right time and dosage, and to avoid potential medication errors.
• Report clients’ and children's medical complaints to the Nurse and Program Director.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Demonstrate proficiency in performing the procedures of administrating medication as evidenced by specific criteria set out in Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
• Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
• Interact with clients in a confidential, therapeutic, and responsible manner maintaining a high level of ethical conduct.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Medical Technician Certification, Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
• Six months to a year experience in drug abuse treatment setting and proficient in computer skills including knowledge of a word processing program and a spreadsheet program
• Any combination of education and experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed in the job description.
